Artist Statment
As a self-taught hand embroidery artist, I view the world through a unique lens where threads become my paint, and fabric, my canvas. My deep-seated passion for nature propels my artistic journey, where birds and flowers frequently find their forms beautifully intertwined within my work. Driven by an obsession with highlights and shadows, I strive to capture the vibrancy of life and the delicate intricacies of color.
The subjects I choose beckon to my soul, calling me with their dynamic movement and iridescent hues. It's this motion and chromatic allure that draws me into a scene, compelling me to replicate this vitality through the multiplicity of threads at my disposal—ranging from stranded cotton to both filament and spun silk. Nature, in all its unfathomable simplicity and beauty, continues to be a wellspring of inspiration; I revel in matching my threads to the subtle hues, shades, and tints that embody my chosen subjects.
My embroidery technique is a distinctive amalgamation of global influences, merging Western and Eastern styles to craft something truly singular. With profound respect, I draw inspiration from traditional Chinese embroidery artists. Each of my pieces is a labor of love, often requiring around 60 meticulous hours to complete. My commitment to using a vast array of colors ensures that each piece vividly embodies the essence of its subject.
Though my journey as an embroidery artist began independently, I have continually sought to expand my skills and refine my technique. My dedication has led me to take classes from the prestigious Royal School of Needlework. My work has been recognized and featured in various renowned publications, including Stitch magazine and the San Francisco School of Needlework and Design, as well as numerous online blogs and magazines.
Through every piece, I aim to honor the splendor of nature and the inspiration it breathes into me, crafting artworks that resonate with emotion and vibrancy, inviting viewers to see the world as I do—with awe and wonder.
